Michelle Agyemang speaks of her pride after debut goal
The teenager scored just 41 seconds after coming on for her England debut in Belgium
MATCH REPORT: BELGIUM V ENGLAND
Michelle Agyemang was understandably still a little lost for words in the moments after her stunning debut goal against Belgium.
The 19 year old striker, who’s been a regular goalscorer for England at WU17 and WU19 level in recent seasons, was only called into the senior squad on Sunday having initially been named in the WU19s squad for their EURO qualifiers this month.
And she made an instant impact after being introduced as a second-half substitute by Sarina Wiegman, scoring just 41 seconds after entering the pitch with her second touch for the senior team.
It was some goal too, as she controlled a deep cross into the box from Leah Williamson before volleying into the top corner to make it 3-2.
It didn’t prove enough to salvage a point in Leuven but is a moment that will live long in the memory of the Arsenal striker, currently on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion.
“It means a lot to me, I am really grateful for the opportunity to come in, make my debut and score my first goal,” said Agyemang.
“We were unlucky with the result but I think this team put a lot of effort in and on another day that is three points. but I am really grateful for the opportunity.”

In terms of the goal, Agyemang admits she couldn’t have dreamed of a better introduction or first goal for the Lionesses.
“It’s a great ball from Leah, and I just thought as soon as I touched it, just hit it and I am really grateful that it went in the goal and proud to score my first goal for England.”
With her career still in its early stages at both international and domestic level, the Londoner is now hoping to build on this moment and make more memories.
“I think [best moment of her career] so far, but hopefully there is many more to come,” she added.
“There is a lot more, I just want to go out there, put the work in, score goals, help the team win games, and that is what I am here for.”
