The Barclays Girls’ Football School Partnership will continue delivering crucial work to support the development of girls’ football in schools for at least another three years after the bank extended its partnership with the FA until 2028.

As part of the shared mission for girls to have equal opportunity to play football in schools, the Barclays Girls’ Football School Partnership was set up in 2019 with 3000 schools originally in the network.

In 2024, there are over 20,000 participating schools, each dedicated to ensuring girls can access football in the same way boys do and enjoy the many benefits it brings.

The extended partnership will deepen its focus on equal access within secondary schools, where it’s known 64 per cent of girls will drop sports by the time they finish puberty.

A new programme ran in partnership with the FA will identify pupils who show potential from within schools, connect the pathway between education and football, and provide critical support to talented players and their families.

Louise Gear, our head of development, said: “We are thrilled to have Barclays on board for another three years as we continue our shared mission for every girl to have the same access to football in schools as boys do.

“It’s remarkable what has been achieved to date, with the vast expansion of the Barclays Girls’ Football School Partnerships and 77 per cent of schools nationwide now offering equal access.

“But we know there is still more work to be done to ensure all girls can unlock the benefits of playing football in school and Barclays’ continued support and investment will be vital to achieving this.”

Tom Corbett, group head of sponsorship at Barclays, added: “I speak for all my colleagues when I say how proud we are to be continuing our sponsorship of football and our partnership with the FA.

“This latest agreement solidifies our long-term commitment to supporting the game at every level and creating opportunities for everyone to benefit from it.”

Barclays has also announced it will continue as the title partner of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship and has doubled its investment in women’s football through a new multi-year sponsorship.
