The Lionesses boss spoke about the departing men's senior manager after he left his role on Tuesday

A MESSAGE FROM GARETH

England women’s head coach Sarina Wiegman has spoken of her sadness to see her men’s counterpart Gareth Southgate leave his role.

The Three Lions boss revealed on Tuesday morning that he will depart following the end of England’s EURO 2024 campaign on Sunday, after reaching a second successive Final in the competition.

And following the Lionesses’ game in Sweden on Tuesday evening, when her side secured qualification for their own EURO Finals next summer, Wiegman revealed her admiration for Southgate and the job he has done over the last eight years.

“Yes [sad to see Gareth go], because he’s such a nice person and a great coach,” she said.

“We wouldn’t see each other all the time but when we do see each other it’s very nice and we send messages.

“What he has done for England Football is really incredible, of course they made the Final now and in the last EUROs too.

“He can be very, very proud of himself. England is very proud of him and me as a Dutch, I’m very proud of him too.”
